GERD First-Year Electricity Output Exceeds Estimates by 17 Percent

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) generated approximately 17 percent more electricity than long-term annual baseline estimates during its first full year of operation, according to a report by the GERD International Collaborative Consortium (GICC). Marking the dam's first anniversary, the consortium emphasized the need to accelerate national grid investments to ensure local communities benefit directly from the increased energy output.
